June 2008
As we reach
the half way point in yet another year, we look around and focus on
anything and everything that could be improved here at Sarah Street.
We are putting in slip free tiling and awnings in and around our Smoking
Pavilion to help make it a weather proof area to go and have a smoke.
We are working hard on our menu to increase our over all quality, and
at the same time, keep prices as fair as we can in this volatile market.
Speaking of which, our near famous Colorado Steak is available for only
a short time longer. It is a dry aged product that we order eight weeks
in advance, and because it has gotten so expensive (a 70% cost), we
are discontinuing it. I think by June 15th they will be gone, and our
new top quality steak, a dry aged Porter House, will be in its place.
If you are a Colorado Steak fan like I am, enjoy it here while you can!
* As always we have a great music line up with many don't miss shows.
NATURAL BREAKDOWN, on June 7, is definitely worth marking on your calendar
- oh wait - your calendar on the fridge should be the other side of
this letter (unless your reading it on the Internet) and it is already
there along with all the other cool shows going on here! * Speaking
of cool things how about this: Tim Carbone, our local member of Railroad
Earth, Kings in Disguise, Blue Sparks from Hell and who often sits in
with many musicians on Sarah Street's stage; recorded a song with Bruce
Springstein and Pete Seegar called "The Ghost of Tom Joad",
and it was just released! Congratulations Tim! Tim Carbone is known
all around the country, and yet we sometimes take him for granted here
in our neck of the woods. Did you know that he gave lessons to Dave
Matthews fiddle player? Did you know that hundreds of people will show
up to hear him play solo in Seattle or Colorado? Now that you do, maybe
you will make a point to enjoy the luxury of having him play here as
often as he does.... I know I do. * Congratulations to my Dad, Bill
Gold, for turning 60 this month. I only wish I can be as fit and young
minded as he is now when I get to that age...actually I would be happy
if that was true now! You may have noticed Bill being around Sarah Street
quite a bit lately. He has decided to make a hobby out of learning the
restaurant biz, and any hobby he takes on ends up being something mastered!
The only thing I know of that is better then my Dad is my Mom! * I know
that many of you know my dog Arageon, and I also have a new dog named
AJ (Arageon Jr.). He is half Mastiff and half Boxer and really handsome
and smart. I am looking for someone with a either a female Mastiff or
Boxer to breed him with in about a year or two. I am pretty sure there
would be a list of people wanting one longer then the number of puppies
born! If you are interested let me know by e mail and we can let our
dogs meet and see if "love" is in the air! This is all based
on me not getting him a "snip snip" because he drives me crazy
in his teenage years! That is what Arageon did, but I have always regretted
not keeping his package complete for a least one litter of pups! Well
this months letter has a lot of more of "me" then of Sarah
Street, but I guess that is sort of one and the same. Remember that
Monday night is now GAME NIGHT! WII on the big screen, Playstation with
four controllers on another, pool, chess, pinocle, yahtzee, and more.
See you at the Sarah Street Grill!

July 2008
Let me start off by reminding people
to mark their calendars for Stroudfest, on August 30th. It was truly
a blast last year and it will be even better this year! I will give
more details in next months letter, but I will mention now that JONAH
SMITH is closing out the Festival, and then playing here that night.
Another reminder is that the NAN Foundation Golf Tournament, that got
rained out May 12th, will be on June 30th at the Shawnee Golf Course.
I know we all hear about so many charity golf outings, but this one
will truly be tons of fun. For more details check with Christy here
at Sarah Street and get a foursome out for a good time and a great cause.
Before I give some extra plugs to who can't be missed this month, I
want to talk about the band that played last night, GREG MAYO AND THE
GROOVE. They are damn good! I am trying hard to get them here more often,
but I need some help from you, because we need more people coming out
for their shows. They are fun, girls go ga ga over them (at least the
Sarah Street girls), they mix great covers and great originals, and
they appeal to almost all ages and tastes. I am trying to get them back
in August, but if not, they will be back in November. Okay, lets finally
talk about July! We get an extra weekend night on July 3rd, and we have
Regina Sayles here to make it memorable. If you are a Dead fan, we have
both JUGGLING SUN and LIQUID SUNSHINE here this month. HAMELL ON TRIAL,
with JOHNNY RYDELL opening, will be here on Thursday the 24th! This
is the type of show that can't be duplicated because both HAMELL and
Johnny are one of a kind. Come down that night, get a good seat and
pay attention to the show. If you watch the entire show, and have not
been asked to "Shut the !@#$%^" up by HAMELL (or me), and
you did not enjoy the experience I will happily return your music charge.
As I always point out, it is not just the artists I mention that should
not be missed! Everyone who takes our stage, well almost everyone, deserves
a good audience (there is definitely all types of music at Open Mic
from super great to "I can't believe that person took the stage!"
- much more of the super great then the second). HOWARD PARKER on July
4th, and DAVE FIELDS on the 26th are both bands that deserve more local
attention. FIVE PERCENT, BOBBY KYLE, and THE POCONO DUO are all terrific.
LEN MOONEY and the ROAMIN GABRIELS and MARK HAMZA and THE GREAT SWAMP
BLUES BAND are local phenomena's. Now that I have spent so much space
talking about who is playing how am I supposed to promote GAME NIGHT
every Monday? How about talking about the great daily drink specials
our bar staff is coming up with? Where do I have room to say we now
have daily salad style specials like an Organic mixed greens with a
Lemon Dill Encrusted Salmon and point out that this is just an example
and maybe I have to print smaller
to make more space to print it all on one page but then you would
need a magnifying glass and if you have
any questions or comments dave@sarahstreetgrill.com.
