I don't know about you, but I do
know that to me there often seems to be nothing but bad news everywhere
you look. On TV, in the newspaper, and even on the Internet: depressing,
depressing, and more depressing. It is not that most of us with any
kind of a brain thought things would be rosy, but there was a feeling
that if we work hard better days would come. Crazy floods, oil spills,
a country divided on so many issues, war, global warming - GLOOM and
DOOM - wahhhhhhhhh! Well that is where we here at Sarah Street come
in. Everyone needs to enjoy good music, good food, good friendships,
and to many of us good sports, to get through the BS that surrounds
us on daily basis. These may seem like minor parts of life, but without
them, how could we possibly deal with the rest? We take our role in
helping to supply these stress releases with a lot of heart and pride
and this month is full of many examples. I have been trying to get SPOKEN
MOVEMENT to do a show here for years and on Labor Day Weekend you can
see them both here on Friday the 3rd, and on the STROUDFEST main stage
in the Courthouse Square at 1 PM. They will have the rap/spoken word
artist Ill Spoken showing why he is the talk of the town in NYC as well
as Mary Ella, one of the best soul and hip hop vocalists doing the singing/speaking.
The band behind them is full of Sarah Streets music history icons, and
these guys are known as some of the best musicians on the East coast.
Please come out and see what I think is cutting edge awesome. Sarah
Street will never be a "gangsta" hang place, but we support
great music of all kinds and SPOKEN MOVEMENT is great music. STROUDFEST
also has the POCONO DUO BAND opening at 11 am, followed by BOBBY SYVARTH
and his full rockin band at noon, then the above SPOKEN MOVEMENT, followed
by UNIVERSAL REBEL, then DREAM OF FIRE, and finishing the show the JONAH
SMITH BAND. Jonah will also be playing here Saturday night after STROUDFEST.
You can see JONAH and BOBBY on the Sarah Street Video collection here
at the Grill and on YouTube. We will be making more live videos at STROUDFEST
for replay here and on the Web of all the bands playing that day, so
make sure you are there so you can brag about it when you see the replay
for years to come. * Speaking of the Web: the Sarah Street phone App
is almost done, as well as a redo of our web site. You will be able
to pre order food for take out or eat in, listen to samples of the band
playing, watch videos of the same and much more on your smart phones.
Our web site, which has always been a good one, is being redone to be
one of the best around. We want our customers to have fun as easy as
possible, and these advanced tech improvements will help make that happen
* Speaking of happy customers: the NFL is back, and no one does it better
then the Grill. The season starts off on Thursday September 9th with
Favre and the Vikings taking on the Super Bowl Champs, the Saints. We
will also have Bobby Syvarth and Tim Carbone that night, and we will
coordinate there performing time with the game as best we can. We will
have the game on with sound the entire time on our 5 new large HI DEF
monitors on the second floor and plenty of opening day game fun everywhere.
Sunday will have every game except for the two games the opening Monday
night. Every Sunday night we will be giving away some kind of major
prize between the 3rd and 4th quarter like: real NFL Helmets, bikes,
TV's and other cool stuff. Miller Lite pitchers for $6.50, 35 cent Buffalo
Wings, HI DEF, more TV's and more room to watch them, lots of prizes
= WE ARE READY FOR FOOTBALL! Besides Football, Monday will also feature
Quizo, hosted by Ryan Long up on the second floor. The game will be
on two of the large HI DEF monitors, and the other two will be used
to post the Quizo questions, show trivia music and movie clips and give
Ryan more ways to make an already fun trivia contest even better. On
Monday, September 20th, the Saints Vs 49ners game features a really
cool prize of EAGLES VS REDSKINS tickets for Donavan's first return
to the Eagles nest on Oct 3rd. These are great seats including a tail
gate party for a huge game, so plan to be here that night - or as I
have said before, plan on being here many nights! After all, it our
job to help make this World more fun, and gosh darn it, we are going
to do it! * Plenty of other great music things happening this month
too, just check our calendar, our web site, our phone App, our Facebook,
Twitter, or just stop in and see it live. Peace and Love All, and stay
as happy as possible.

August 2010
Sarah Street is a little sad and
a lot proud that Beth Miller is now a full time employed registered
nurse! Beth has been a big part of SSG for the fifteen years we have
been around, and I knew her five years longer then that. Although no
longer a "scheduled" employee, her bar employee number is
untouchable, and you will still see her filling in once in a while.
If we had a SSG Hall of Fame, and maybe we should, Beth would definitely
be a member. Well as Beth departs, Kevin Salamone returns. Yes, Kevin
is back behind the bar and will be doing some shift managing and house
promotion. He will be bartending Monday nights (our game night and Monday
Night Football!!), Wednesday night (open mic night) and Saturday night
(a night of some of our best bands) as well as front of house managing
on Friday nights. Welcome back Kevin! * So Sarah Street is going Solar.
In these days of it being important to think Green, we are proud to
announce we will be installing a good sized solar energy unit, enough
to generate at least 10% of our power usage. From what I have found
out, I highly recommend that anyone that has the space looks into doing
the same. My parents are generating more power at their home in a month
then they use in a year with their solar panels, and as all good kids
should do, I am following their lead! I will keep you all updated as
to when these solar panels will go into use and what issues come along
with the project as it moves forward. * So as I often point out, I am
a MET fan. They are always an interesting story, and it is certainly
a big deal when they actually win, because they often don't. I am loyal
to the team, but very disappointed in the management of the new stadium,
Citified. In fact, I have a much better time going to see them play
in Philly, Baltimore, and although I have not been there yet, I am sure
Pittsburgh. These parks are also new, but they are still about baseball.
Citified thinks it is a Broadway Show - the seats are very expensive,
and security is tighter then the White House. My girlfriend got us tickets
on my birthday behind home plate. The seats were large and comfortable,
and the view fantastic, but they were $230 face value. Our row was full
and stayed that way, but rows in front of us emptied as the game went
on. People, including us, wanted to move up a row or two: to take photos,
have a little more room, be able to put their things in a empty seat,
but they were not allowed to, and were talked to like they were bad
school kids. This is all people who were already in that section, as
there is NO WAY someone from a cheaper seating area could ever get down
there. In my opinion, this is not the way a baseball stadium should
be run. If someone leaves the game, their seat should be open for someone
else to move to. Okay, not until the last couple of innings. Okay, if
they come back, move the people out of their seats. Okay, if it is a
whiner season ticket holder that freaks if anyone is in their seat,
have the same security person work that section and keep that seat open.
Otherwise, CHILL OUT! I never have heard of someone in the correct section
being told to move out of a empty seat in any other sporting event I
have ever been too - and I have been to a lot. I will be going back
to Citified, but not often, because I prefer to watch my team in other
teams parks. * August is full of great live music on our stage, as it
is every month. We will also be doing a benefit for our local little
league teams and kids on Monday the 23rd. 10% of all sales that day
will go to help the kids play, and there will be raffles, pool and dart
tournaments, and more. If you want to donate something to help in the
raffle contact our GM Chris Gavalas here at the Grill. * Mark on your
calendars now that STROUDFEST in happening the first weekend in September
on Saturday the 4th. I have put together what I hope to be the best
main stage show yet. There will be rock, and spoken word with amazing
funk, eclectic jamming, and great soul R&B from 11am until 7pm in
the Courthouse Square. I will give more detail in next month's letter,
but plan to be there now! * Whoops, I almost forgot to plug the Wine
tasting, and Christy C would give me an angry look if I didn't remind
people to attend it on the last Tuesday of every month. It is a bargain,
and it is fun - great food, five different wines, and always a good
group of party people for $20 in advance or $25 the night of (tip not
included). I have made three of four, and they really are great. See
you at the Sarah Street Grill. Peace all.
